Port Hedland: 170 kW HVAC Package Unit Replacement

Replacing a critical HVAC system in remote Pilbara conditions comes with logistical complexity, site compliance requirements, and no margin for delay.
This project involved the full change-out of a 170 kW HVAC package unit supporting core operations at a major mining site. The client needed a mine specification, corrosion-resistant solution engineered for the region’s harsh conditions and delivered within a compressed timeframe.
With only a narrow window to complete the job and surrounding systems remaining active, our team delivered a full design check, removal, and installation program completed safely and efficiently within just seven days.
Project Scope
Perth Air & Power Solutions was engaged to deliver a complete system replacement. As dual-certified commercial electrical and refrigerant licensed technicians, we provided a seamless and integrated solution that managed both the mechanical and electrical complexities of the site.
The scope included:
- Engineering review: A detailed audit to confirm AS/NZS and site compliance.
- Decommissioning: Removal of the legacy HVAC unit and pressurisation system.
- Supply and Installation: Integration of a new 170 kW APAC package unit and a Clean Air Solutions pressurisation unit.
- Technical Integration: Reconnection of power, controls, and fire interfaces managed by our dual-qualified experts.
- Verification: System recommissioning, performance verification, and full handover documentation.
The new system was built for long-term durability in high-dust and coastal conditions. It featured Blygold-treated coils, stainless steel cam lock panels, advanced earthing, and labelled components for ease of maintenance.

Accountable Planning and Site Delivery
At Perth Air & Power Solutions, we believe there is no point in providing a service if it is not done right. Before mobilisation, our team conducted a full engineering design check to validate the proposed configuration. This proactive approach ensures we hold ourselves accountable to the final outcome and reduces the risk of on-site delays.
With limited access and adjacent systems in continuous operation, we coordinated closely with the existing scaffold and crane contractors to safely manage the removal and replacement process.
Results
By choosing a full-service provider, the client avoided the need to manage multiple contractors for electrical and HVAC work.
- Speed: Full HVAC and pressurisation system replacement completed in 7 days.
- Safety: Zero safety incidents while adhering strictly to Australian regulations and OHS standards.
- Performance: Significantly improved air distribution and system reliability.
- Documentation: Full transparency with O and M manuals, MDRs, and as-built drawings.
